My Favourite Pictures and Memories from June

Hi everyone!

I’ve been neglecting my blog so much this year 😦 This has been a very busy month again, so here’s my monthly post that’s part of a Swap-Bot swap! I hope to post more in the next month!

On 1st June I went to AttitudeFest (a recurring event hosted by Attitude Holland) for the first time! I didn’t take nearly enough photos! It was such a fun day and I met so many lovely people! There were lots of fun workshops to attend and I managed to get lots of really cool clothing items from the clothing swap workshop. I was planning on doing a post featuring all the items I got there, but didn’t have time – let me know if any of you would still like to see it anyway. One of the highlights of the day was meeting this lovely lady (Grave Lavolta) who I have been following on Instagram for a few years now!

btf

I also got a few photos taken by ByMarije, a photographer whose work I really admire! The nose chain and necklace are my own creations and are available to purchase from my Etsy store.

The following week I left for my first ever Wave-Gotik-Treffen! Again – if you would still like an individual post on this, let me know! I know it’s super late! But here are some of the highlights of the festival.

One of the only photos I took with my friend Caroline. We shared an Airbnb for the week! She has a really cool blog so check it out!
The local bakery sold these cute coffin cakes during the festival so I just had to get one!
The beautiful Wachau church ruins where The Moon and the Nightspirit performed on the Sunday!
Our DIY absinthe bar, haha! I wanted to try absinthe for the first time so my friends helped me out!
Our extremely tired faces! This was taken at 8am on the Tuesday morning when we got kicked out of the last party of WGT.

I took my husband to do a free walking tour of our city and got him to take a selfie! He normally hates selfies!

From the 24th until the 29th I was on a family holiday where we rented a boat on the Canal de la Marne au Rhin in France! I’ll be writing an in-depth post on the trip sometime this week, but here are some photos!

The massive boat lift Saint-Louis-Arzviller
The view from the Château de Lutzelbourg ruins
We also stopped in Luxembourg on the way home. It’s so beautiful there!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my month!

My First Ever Post-punk concert (OOTN and a short review)

Hi everyone!

On Friday night I went to my first ever post-punk concert! We don’t have these kinds of bands in South Africa so this is one of the things I was excited for about moving to Belgium!

I didn’t know either of these artists so I decided to check them out beforehand and really liked their sound so decided to go. Every month or so Dark Entries hosts an event with different goth or related genre bands playing. It’s a super tiny venue, but the sound is pretty decent!

Here are some photos of my outfit for the night! I was EXTREMELY overdressed for this event! xD Everyone looked super normal and I felt very out of place, but the music was good!

I arrived a bit late and Xtort had already started playing. They are based in Duisburg, Germany and describe their sound as industrial wave post-punk. I really enjoyed their performance! They are a two man act, which is something I had never seen before, so I was really impressed! They have a very experimental sound, mixing different styles and sounds! I love it!

Here’s one of their songs so you can check them out:

Palais Ideal were amazing! They are from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. I absolutely love post-punk and I really enjoyed their show! They are also a two man band. Their sound has a lot of old school post-punk elements so it’s perfect for those who love older goth music. I found it funny how the lead vocalist / guitarist sort of looked like he could be a CEO because of his suit, tie and short hair, and the backing vocalist / bassist looked like he was too cool for the job, with his unbuttoned shirt, hair in his face and sunglasses.

Here’s one of their songs:

Both of these bands are on Spotify if you want to check out more of their music! Unfortunately I couldn’t find my favourite tracks on YouTube.

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from January

Hi everyone!

I’m going to be doing this post monthly again now that I have my PC back and life is a bit less crazy! 🙂 So here’s my monthly post with my favourite pictures from the month. This post is done as a Swap-Bot swap. Warning, this will be a long and picture heavy post!

This year started off rough, with lots of paperwork involved in registering for residence and my oldest cat, Rits, getting sick. Luckily he is much better now but we had to change his diet. I took this photo of him and Mavis just before he got sick.

On the 14th January our container was finally delivered! There were boxes everywhere and it made the house look so small! Luckily most of them have been unpacked now.

I also bought this absolutely gorgeous antique display cabinet for the house! It was only 40 euros! I couldn’t believe it when I saw the price.

On the 19th I went out to our local goth event called Infekted. It’s the second one I’ve gone to since arriving in Belgium and I absolutely love it! Here’s me and my friend Cathy before the event.

The next day, I had my first photoshoot in Belgium! It was extremely cold, but we got some stunning photos. Thanks to Bullz Eye for the beautiful photos – this is one of my favourites!

It also snowed (twice!). Mavis was extremely curious and decided to investigate. She did not like the snow falling on her ears at all!

The day after the first lot of snow, I did a spontaneous photoshoot with Schok Pop! Here’s one of the photos we have received so far! Thanks to Wouter Lecturewoon for the photos!

I also bought these gorgeous Demonia boots that I’ve wanted for a while. They were on a 75% clearance sale so I just had to snatch them up!

On the 27th Cathy, Jeroen and I went to the Mixed Visions event in Antwerp! This was the first time that I had to party until 5am because we had to wait for the trains to start running again to get home. It was an interesting experience because I’m not used to staying out so late, but I had lots of fun! I fell asleep in the train on the way home:

Mavis has discovered that the radiators are nice and warm, so this is her new favourite sleeping spot.

And finally my last photo for the month! I ordered this gorgeous custom three eyed kitty necklace from KatLunasCoven and just had to do a green makeup look to go with it! And it was also snowing again that day!

That’s all from me for now! Sorry for it being long. It’s been a busy month!

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from August

Hi everyone!

Here’s my monthly post with my favourite pictures from the month. As always, this is part of a Swap-Bot swap. This one has a lot of selfies – #sorrynotsorry!

Let’s start off with this cute photo I took of Rits holding his back feet!

Next is a selfie with my friend Kayleigh looking like a creep in the background! This was taken at Release The Bats, which was the first event I’ve ever organised! I had lots of fun and I’d love to host more events!

I’ve been making lots of new clay jewellery recently, and here I am wearing one of my favourite creations so far!

This next photo is the cute Demonia shoes I found at a thrift store for next to nothing! I still can’t believe how cheap these were! They are quite old, but I think they look really cute!

This next one is a selfie I took before going out to Red Room! I really love this look and it might be one of my favourites I’ve worn out to an event so far. I absolutely adore the spiderweb harness I got from Punk Pixie Bound!

The last one for this month is a selfie I took before going to work. We celebrated Spring Day on the 31st of August and were asked to wear something bright and colourful. This is definitely not a style I would normally wear, but I thought it looked quite nice!

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my month!

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from May

Hi everyone!

This post is part of the ESG: My favourite picture of the month May swap on Swap-Bot. This month was relatively uneventful except for markets so I apologise in advance!

So let’s start where we left off – I went to Cape Town for FanCon but we spent a two extra days there so I only came back on the 2nd of May. I got to spend some time with my best friend, Juan! We went to Beerhouse, which was great.

That Friday, I went for my Wednesday Addams tattoo! I did post a photo on Facebook, but I am going for a touch up soon so will rather share another photo when it is complete. I am so in love with this piece though!

On the 5th I had my stall at Metal United World Wide and had lots of fun with great people. Here’s one of our selfies from the night.

On the 6th I had another stall at Alt. Market – First Sunday of Every Month and I took this cute photo of my friend Bree! We are complete opposites but we are great friends!

On the 14th I received my first Firefly Book Bags subscription and I was definitely not disappointed! This was a great surprise and featured lots of magical and Harry Potter themed goodies. I love that they customised the patronus bag to each person’s patronus! My favourite thing is definitely the Howler bag – if you know anything about Harry Potter then you’ll immediately see it! I have not had time to read the book yet, but I will soon!

I received an incredible headpiece from Black Frame Odditorium which I will use for a shoot soon! I don’t want to reveal the entire headpiece, but here’s a sneak peek! Isn’t it stunning?!

On the 19th and 20th I had my stall at GeekFest! It didn’t go as well as I had planned, but I did have fun. Here’s my female Beetlejuice cosplay from the Sunday!

On the 26th and 27th I also had stalls! But the 26th was our World Goth Day event which was held at Melrose House – Pretorian Victorian & The Art of Goth on World Goth Day. It was a lovely day, and I enjoyed seeing everyone’s cool outfits. I even did a quick photoshoot of my outfit with Kitty Bee Photography:

That night I went out to Red Room with Bree! I managed to get quite a bit of dancing in so it was an overall great night.

On the 27th I had a stall at Kief Modils Charity Market Day. Janine from Kitty Bee Photography and I decided to start up ALT Thrift Gear where we sell secondhand alternative clothing. We set this stall up in between ours and it did very well! So we’ve decided to keep on doing it until we run out of clothes (or get sick of it!).

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my month!

PS – Some exciting news is coming soon!

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from March

Hi everyone!

I almost entirely forgot to do this post this month because I have been so busy! This post is part of the ESG: My favourite picture of the month March swap on Swap-Bot.

On the 3rd of March I had a stall at A Viking Thing. It was extremely busy and I had loads of fun!

I also got two handpoked rune tattoos done that are very personal to me. I took this cool selfie while getting them done!

On the 10th of March I had a busy day! I went to visit my friend Krisne and we went for tea and thift shopping. I bought the most beautiful dresses to use for photoshoots. Then in the evening I DJ’ed at Goth/Industrial Night at The Doors! My friends Bree and Chris came to support me and we danced most of the night away!

The following day we finally got our new kitten, Mavis!!! We love her to bits already. I’ll write a post all about her in the next two weeks!

On the 18th I went to the Brooklyn Theatre with my friend Simone for a very interesting show! They were showing the original 1922 silent film Nosferatu and had 3 musicians performing their own music to accompany the film. We both really enjoyed it. I thought it was the perfect time to wear my Nosferatu necklace!

On the 24th we had a bunch of friends over for a braai (barbeque for my non-South African readers), and to play Cards Against Humanity! It was a hilarious evening but we forgot to take photos.

On the 25th I went to the Pokemon Community day with some friends to catch some special Bulbasaurs! I took this cute photo with one!

On the 30th I had a stall and DJ’ed at The Freakquency Transmission. I managed to watch all the bands I wanted to see and had a great time.

And finally on the 31st I had an amazing Beetlejuice inspired shoot with Jes Hunter Photography! Here’s the sneak peek photo that I took. We have not released any of the photos yet 🙂

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my month!

2017 In Review & Plans For 2018

Hi everyone!

My apologies for taking so long to upload this. January has not been kind to me. I’ve been extremely ill twice, and two of my pets have passed away so I have been very depressed. I’ve finally had the time and energy to finish this post. This is just going to be a quick summary of my 2017, and my plans for 2018.

January

January was pretty slow – I just worked, and wrote my last exam for my degree.

February

I went to Red Room with Juan, and teased my hair really big. I really loved this look!

I also got this incredible drawing of myself from Trevor Schuster. Here’s a side by side comparison of the drawing and the photo he used!

I did a shoot with Wasabi Foto that is very different from my usual style, but I love the result!

March

I handed in my leather bound research report on the 3rd!

I won an award for Trevor at Ink & Iron for best half back colour tattoo! Excuse the sunburn! Here’s my tattoo as well, for those of you who haven’t seen it.

I went to a cosplay picnic in my Little Sister cosplay from Bioshock! I had some awesome photos taken there. This one is my favourite.

My husband and I got engaged! We waited to announce it when we got the ring though, as we decided to have a ring custom made.

I also convinced my non-Goth friends to go to Attrition! Look at how gorgeous they looked!

April

I had a stall at Fantasy Fayre and made this skirt so that I could wear a viking inspired outfit!

I went to visit my beautiful friend Neko in Clarens for the weekend and had so much fun! I wish she didn’t live so far.

I had a photoshoot with Taikutsuna Majo, where two of my beloved pets modeled with me. Sadly they are both no longer with us.

At Pagan Freedom Day I shot with a bow for the first time in years!

May

I graduated my Honours Degree in Strategic Brand Communication!

Unfortunately just a few days after my graduation, my dog, Layla, had to be put down. I was heartbroken and it took me months to recover.

I got new synthetic dreads that I put in for a week. I loved this look I did for Geekfest! I had a stall there and it went really well!

I had a lovely day out with my friend Krisne where we went vintage shopping and drank lots of tea! We even stopped by a charity shop that is also a cat sanctuary and I made a new friend!

June

I was very busy with my jewellery business this month! I had 3 stalls and worked very hard to create stock.

I went to ICON to support my fellow stallholders, and got to fight a knight! Look at how ridiculous I look in the armour! It was lots of fun though!

July

I started working at the company I work at!

I also attended the last ever Dark Noise party with Juan. I’m so sad that I don’t have any more Dark Noise parties to look forward to. They were always so much fun.

August

I was very busy with stalls again this month.

We finally had our engagement photos taken! Thank you to Derek Whitton Photography for the beautiful photos.

My grandfather passed away and we went to his funeral.

September

I visited Neko in Clarens for a week to de-stress and have time to make jewellery stock for my biggest market for the year.

I had a stall at a Harry Potter festival and it was extremely busy! Luckily towards the end of the day I managed to take photos with Simone at the photobooth!

It was my birthday and my mother and I went to watch the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra perform Disney songs. It was such a fantastic show!

October

It was my biggest market for the year – rAge. I was extremely over-worked but it was worth it. I wore my Little Sister cosplay again and even found a splicer!

November

I had a stall at Discworld Day! I dressed up as Adora Belle Dearheart from Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal. Unfortunately it was extremely hot and I was unable to manage my stall for the majority of the day. Luckily some kind stallholders looked after me and even drove home with me to make sure that I was safe.

It was my kitchen tea and we went to the botanical gardens. I just love the look on my face in this photo. It was the exact moment that I realised that the lingerie I had just opened was from my mother!

We got married! The day did not go according to plan because it was pouring with rain the whole day, but it was still perfect! Thank you to Swallow-Tail Photography for our amazing photos and my beautiful makeup.

The next day we left on honeymoon, which was absolutely incredible. We went to Paris, Venice and Rome! I’ll write a post all about the wedding and honeymoon! I don’t want to spoil too much, but my absolute favourite place we went to was the Paris Catacombs. Here’s my favourite photo I took there:

December

We got back from honeymoon on the 7th December and I was back at work the next day.

I had 2 amazing photoshoots to end off the year. One with Dark Arts Society:

And one with Shyne Photo:

I worked until the 22nd of December and didn’t do much in my time off. Hardly any of the plans I made worked out unfortunately. But I did have a Harry Potter marathon with Bree!

Sadly one our rats, Dovahkiin passed away suddenly around Christmas, followed by my rabbit, Frodo and one of our other rats, Eddie, in the first week of January. As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, the year didn’t start off well for me, but I hope that it gets better.

Plans For 2018

This year is going to be a busy one for me.

As I’m now working full time, I have less time for Ayame Designs and for modeling. Because of this, my jewellery business will take preference over modeling. I am going to focus most of my free time on growing Ayame Designs, especially internationally. I have some very exciting new product ranges coming up this year that I will be working on whenever I can. I will no longer be doing smaller markets, as they are not worth my time. The only exception is when it’s an alternative market and it’s not too far to travel. I am also travelling to Cape Town to have a stall at FanCon! This is the first time that I am travelling outside of Pretoria and Johannesburg for a stall so it’s very exciting!

As for my modeling, I will only be taking on work that will result in something amazing and different. I am much more selective about who I work with, and will only be shooting interesting concepts. Unfortunately all the alternative and goth magazines I would like to be published in don’t have themes I would like to shoot, so I will probably only be submitting to open themed issues or magazines this year.

I have just become permanent at my job! This means that I will also be taking on new responsibilities and I am excited to grow in the company. I’ll also be working much harder than perviously, and therefore won’t have as much free time.

I want to commit to writing a blog post at least once every 2 weeks. I am working on a few new posts right now, and also have some ideas for future posts saved. Unfortunately I don’t have as much time as I’d like to film YouTube videos, so I will be focusing on blogging, as I can write little bits at a time when I can, but don’t often have multiple hours free to film and edit videos.

This year I have also decided to cut all negative things out of my life. Whether it’s people who drag me down or things I let happen. I am done letting people or circumstances affect my happiness. I will make more time for people and things that make me happy.

I know this is quite a long post! Congrats on making it to the end! PS – My post about my wedding will be up next week, followed by one on my honeymoon.

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from October

Hi everyone!

This post is part of the ESG: My favourite picture of the month October swap on Swap-Bot.

Over the weekend of 6-8th October, I had a stall at my biggest event of the year – rAge Expo. For those not from South Africa, rAge is a gaming and geek expo! On the Saturday, I cosplayed a Little Sister from my favourite game series – Bioshock. Within the first hour of the day I managed to find a splicer (another character from the game) and we just had to take a photo together!

Next up, here are all the awesome goodies that I bought at rAge! Most of these were from fellow stallholders in the Artist Alley – we have so many talented crafters in South Africa and I love supporting them!

I got asked to model for a Tough Candy Makeup & FX‘s Halloween Countdown makeup series, and I got to be Frankenstein’s Bride! I really need to do a photoshoot with this look!!!

I also managed to accidentally dye my fringe blue (oops!), but at least it meant that I could finally wear one of my favourite skirts again! As those who know me will know, I only wear clothes to match my hair colours.

And lastly, here are some photos from Halloween! My makeup was done by the very talented Creative Chaos! I was a zombie Alice in Wonderland during the day, as I had a stall at an Alice in Wonderland themed market! Then at night I went out to Red Room with Juan and Tika, so I just threw on a more Goth outfit that I thought looked cool. Halloween was amazing! I danced so much at Red Room and caught up with so many people I hadn’t seen in ages.

This month I also sorted out lots of wedding arrangements, which I obviously can’t share photos of yet! I can’t believe my big day is only 18 days away!

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my month!
