My First Ever Post-punk concert (OOTN and a short review)

Hi everyone!

On Friday night I went to my first ever post-punk concert! We don’t have these kinds of bands in South Africa so this is one of the things I was excited for about moving to Belgium!

I didn’t know either of these artists so I decided to check them out beforehand and really liked their sound so decided to go. Every month or so Dark Entries hosts an event with different goth or related genre bands playing. It’s a super tiny venue, but the sound is pretty decent!

Here are some photos of my outfit for the night! I was EXTREMELY overdressed for this event! xD Everyone looked super normal and I felt very out of place, but the music was good!

I arrived a bit late and Xtort had already started playing. They are based in Duisburg, Germany and describe their sound as industrial wave post-punk. I really enjoyed their performance! They are a two man act, which is something I had never seen before, so I was really impressed! They have a very experimental sound, mixing different styles and sounds! I love it!

Here’s one of their songs so you can check them out:

Palais Ideal were amazing! They are from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. I absolutely love post-punk and I really enjoyed their show! They are also a two man band. Their sound has a lot of old school post-punk elements so it’s perfect for those who love older goth music. I found it funny how the lead vocalist / guitarist sort of looked like he could be a CEO because of his suit, tie and short hair, and the backing vocalist / bassist looked like he was too cool for the job, with his unbuttoned shirt, hair in his face and sunglasses.

Here’s one of their songs:

Both of these bands are on Spotify if you want to check out more of their music! Unfortunately I couldn’t find my favourite tracks on YouTube.

Recent Thrift Finds

Hi everyone!

Apologies for the silence! I had planned on scheduling a bunch of posts before we packed up for the move but I ran out of time! I’ll have to carry on with my Feature Fridays in January because most of my belongings are in the container now.

However, I have been very bored since we finished packing and I’ve gone thrift shopping a few times and want to show off the cool items I got!

Let’s start with this top that I got for R5 at the hospice shop! Honestly I almost didn’t take it but I’m glad I did! It looks a lot better on than I was expecting.

Next I got this absolutely gorgeous vintage satin cropped top with bat sleeves! The fabric is so soft and I love how it looks on.

I also got this pretty skirt. It’s difficult to see the detail in the photo but the fabric has a stunning damask pattern and the middle pleated section in front is velvet.

Here’s a close up of the fabric:

I also got this really cool long cardigan. I just wish it had pockets!

This beautiful capelet is definitely going to be a staple item for my autumn / winter wardrobe! It’s made of velvet and has a thick lining so it will be perfect for colder days.

I really love this stretchy mesh top too – especially because of the bell sleeves!

I also got these two corsets but they are in need of new laces!

And lastly, I got a few books! I think my favourite book I got is the collection of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytales.

I did buy a few more clothing items but the photos didn’t come out well.

That’s all from me today!

I hope you enjoyed this haul!

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from August

Hi everyone!

Here’s my monthly post with my favourite pictures from the month. As always, this is part of a Swap-Bot swap. This one has a lot of selfies – #sorrynotsorry!

Let’s start off with this cute photo I took of Rits holding his back feet!

Next is a selfie with my friend Kayleigh looking like a creep in the background! This was taken at Release The Bats, which was the first event I’ve ever organised! I had lots of fun and I’d love to host more events!

I’ve been making lots of new clay jewellery recently, and here I am wearing one of my favourite creations so far!

This next photo is the cute Demonia shoes I found at a thrift store for next to nothing! I still can’t believe how cheap these were! They are quite old, but I think they look really cute!

This next one is a selfie I took before going out to Red Room! I really love this look and it might be one of my favourites I’ve worn out to an event so far. I absolutely adore the spiderweb harness I got from Punk Pixie Bound!

The last one for this month is a selfie I took before going to work. We celebrated Spring Day on the 31st of August and were asked to wear something bright and colourful. This is definitely not a style I would normally wear, but I thought it looked quite nice!

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my month!

Gothic Thrift Haul

Hi everyone!

As you might know, I love thrift shopping! Today I went to my favourite place in Pretoria to hunt for cheap gothic and alternative goodies – few Sungardens Hospice Shop. Today was an extremely successful trip because I even managed to get a pair of Demonias! So without further ado, here’s what I got!

Let’s start off with this black ruffle top! It cost me R10 and I think it will look perfect for a Victorian Goth look with either an underbust or overbust corset. It looks quite cute on its own too!

Next up, this pinstripe top! It didn’t look like much when I grabbed it from a pile, but I thought I knew what it was, and it was only R5 so I bought it to see if I was right (there are no fitting rooms) and I was definitely not disappointed! The only thing it needs is lacing in the eyelets on the sides and then it will be perfect!

Next is this absolutely stunning corset top! I’m sad because it is a tiny bit too small for me, but it’s an easy fix because currently it has a zip at the back which I will remove to insert lacing. It has stiff boning in and is very pretty! Definitely an absolute steal for only R10!

I also got some cool books! I got the Terry Pratchett quotes one for my best friend Juan and the Dracula one for myself, because you can never have too many different copies of a classic! I like this copy because it’s pretty much pocket sized so it’s perfect for travelling! Wit & Wisdom of Discworld was R65 and Dracula was R55.

And of course, last but not least, the Demonias I picked up for only R20! They have a bit of wear and tear, as you can see, but they definitely have a lot of wear left! I just need to give them a polish and then they will look so cute! They are actually a size smaller than I usually wear, but the fit of the Mary Jane style shoe works for me and they are very comfortable!

I hope you enjoyed this haul!

My Huge Gothic Shoe Collection (36 Pairs Of Shoes!)

Hi everyone!

My apologies for the delay in posting this! I recently decided to go through my shoes, as I gave been told by many people that I have a shoe hoarding problem. I decided to use this opportunity to show off my shoe collection, which while it might be considered impressive, the majority of it is actually thrifted! After going through my 36 pairs of shoes, I could only bring myself to part with a few of them.

Here is the entire collection (Okay, I lie, three pairs are missing from this photo – two were in my car and one I was gifted later. Apologies for the bad quality photos of those three pairs). This excludes boring basic shoes like black pumps and sandals.

So let’s jump right into it! For each shoe, I’ll list the brand and name of the shoe if I know it, as well as whether I bought them new or secondhand. If they are for sale as part of my declutter, I will link to my Facebook album – sorry South Africa only as international shipping is too expensive! If you would like me to do a post on thrifting and thrifting tips, let me know!

Rosetic Haul & Review

Hi everyone.

I know it’s been AGES since I wrote a proper blog post – things have been really crazy with my wedding being less than 2 weeks away! I just have to share these awesome clothing items with you though!

A few months back, I stumbled upon Rosetic. I am often wary of buying clothing online, but they had amazing items, and very good reviews, so I decided to order a few goodies that caught my eye. Sadly one of the items I ordered were out of stock and was shipped two weeks later, so that piece has not arrived yet.

For each item I will show the listing image with the purchase link, followed by my review and own images. Please excuse the blurriness of some photos and my un-makeuped face. I did not stylise these items in any way so that I portray them in the most accurate way possible.

Purchase here

This top was the first item I pulled out of the envelope, and was actually the one I was most excited to receive.

So does it look like the picture? Well, not entirely. But I don’t hate it. I actually love it. The only thing that I really don’t like is how the fabric photographs on my phone, haha! The fabric is soft and breathable and the top is very comfortable due to the stretch. The only major issue I have with it is the cravat. It doesn’t look anything like the photo – it’s very one-dimensional, and it also only has one size setting which is too big. Luckily it is removable! I am sure that I can style it nicely though. The sizing issue is very easy to fix as well.

My favourite part of this top is the beautiful filigree pattern on the mesh:

I also love the button details on the sleeves. It also has a corset style lacing detail on the back, but I couldn’t take photos of that on my own.

Of course to style this top, I will tuck it in to a skirt and wear either a waist belt or an underbust corset with it.

This top will certainly see lots of wear in winter! And it will look gorgeous with the next item I’m going to show you!

Purchase here

I actually almost ended up not buying this skirt, but I am so glad I did!

As you can see, this skirt looks pretty much exactly like the image. I must admit though, the fabric isn’t what I thought it would be, but looking at the listing again, it is exactly what it says it is. The skirt is a cotton blend, and sits very comfortably. Because of the fabric, I can definitely wear this in summer as well as in winter. The buttons might be a nuisance to do up every time I put this skirt on though. I really love how figure hugging and comfortable it is though. This is also actually my first proper Victorian looking skirt!

Purchase here

This might sadly be the only item I am a little bit disappointed with.

I knew this dress was made of polyester, but the way it feels on the skin is not comfortable at all. I am hoping that once it’s been through the wash it will be feel a bit softer on the skin (and obviously much less crinkled, because that also made an impact on my thoughts on it). One thing that I am definitely not disappointed with though, is the size of the sleeves! I wanted a dress with MASSIVE bell sleeves and this is perfect. It is, however, a lot shorter than I anticipated, so I shall definitely be wearing this dress with opaque stockings rather than sheer.

Purchase here

I had some mixed feelings about this dress, but I realised why while I was writing this review.

This dress is the same sort of fabric as the previous dress and arrived super crinkled, which explains my instant dislike for it. It is a thinner fabric than the previous one, and definitely breathable and good for summer. For this listing, I didn’t read the material type and was expecting viscose or something similar but it turned out to be polyester. I do think that I can get wear out of this dress though once it’s been though the wash, and if styled correctly. I don’t like the belt that came with it, but I think one of my PVC or corset style waist belts can work really well.

Overall, I am very happy with my order. I’ll definitely be ordering from them again in the new year, but will double check the fabrics before ordering. I ordered all of these items in Medium and they fit true to size.

If you order from Rosetic or have ordered from them before, let me know what you think of their items!
