Me from A-Z

Hello everyone!

I thought this would be a fun one to do. It’s actually for a swap on Swap-Bot called ESG: Me from A-Z 2. This was actually quite tricky for some letters!

A – Ayame Designs. My jewellery business where I sell my handmade jewellery.

B – Burgers. My favourite type of food. I love going to new restaurants to try their burgers.

C – Corsets. I love them and wish I could wear them every day! I have an entire drawer in my cupboard just for my corsets.

D – Denmark. I went there on holiday in 2015 for a month and fell in love with the place. I want to move there in a few years.

E – Empathy. I am able to place myself in others’ shoes and experience their pain. This makes me always want to help others but often people take advantage of this.

F – Folk Metal. My favourite genre of music! My favourite bands are Korpiklaani, Eluveitie, Finntroll, Northland and Månegarm.

G – Goth. I love Gothic fashion and music. Being Goth is a huge part of my life and who I am.

H – Hair. I love to dye my hair unnatural colours but I have had the green and black for over a year now because I love it so much! I just recently put dark blue in my ends to change it up a little bit.

I – Introvert. I’m very shy and keep to myself in strange situations or some people I know. But once I get to know a person I can’t shut up!

J – Jossie Ayame. My modeling name. Modeling is one of the most important things in my life.

K – Kindness. I always try to be kind to others. People are usually shocked when they find out how nice I am because of preconceptions about Goths.

L – Lace. My favourite fabric. I wear lace almost every day.

M – Moon. I love looking at the moon at night. I find it very beautiful and calming.

N – Nostril piercing. I wanted my nostril pierced for years but due to my extreme phobia of needles (yes, I know it sounds silly because I have many tattoos and a few piercings), I only got it done two years ago. I chickened out on four separate occasions before I finally got it done and then it turned out to be the least painful piercing I have ever gotten.

O – Opinionated. I’m very opinionated and I know what I want. Sometimes this is a good thing but sometimes it causes problems with people.

P – Purple. My favourite colour! My entire room (even the walls) is dark purple.

Q – Queens. I am obsessed with anything relating to the medieval era and my favourite ruler was Queen Elizabeth I of England.

R – Rats. I have 3! They are called Merlin, Eddie and Dovahkiin.

S – Sushi. I am addicted to sushi and would eat it every day if I could.

T – Travel. I love to travel and have a very long bucket list of places I want to see!

U – University. I’m currently completing my honours in Strategic Brand Communication.

V – Violin. I play the violin. I played from the age of 5 until 13 and just recently started again!

W – Winter. My favourite season. I love snow and cold weather.

X – X-rays. I’m very accident prone so I often go for x-rays. Luckily I’ve only ever broken one bone and it was when I was very young.

Y – Yesterday. Creating memories is very important to me so I can look back on every day and have something to remember from it.

Z – Zombies. I love zombie movies and series.

I hope you enjoyed this list!

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from June

Hello everyone!

I know I am not posting very often lately. I have been dealing with some health issues – I will write about it soon.

This post is part of a swap on Swap-Bot called ESG: My favourite picture of the month June.

At the beginning of June, we decided to adopt another rat, who we called Dovahkiin (aka Dovah). It took a while for Merlin and Eddie to accept him, but now they love each other. I took this photo when they finally moved in together.

I had a stall at a convention 24-26 June, and one of the other stalls was Lory Park Zoo, an animal sanctuary aimed at animal rehabilitation, breeding programs for endangered species and raising awareness of our wildlife. They brought this gorgeous tiny owl along called Star. He is 27 years old!

The next one is from our holiday last week. We spent the week in Clarens and decided to drive through Lesotho to go to the mountains. My boyfriend had never seen snow before so it was very exciting for him!

The last photo I’ll be sharing with you is another one from the Clarens trip. The day after the Lesotho roadtrip, the photographer I had arranged to shoot with arrived in Clarens and we did our first photoshoot. You may recognise the lovely lady on my left from my A Lovely Weekend In Clarens post. She was nice enough to let us stay at her house while we were there and of course we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do a shoot together! I love my new friend very dearly ❤

These were my favourite photos and memories from June! I hope you enjoyed them.

My Favourite Pictures and Memories from May

Hi everyone!

It’s been a while since I posted. Life has been quite chaotic recently and May was a very busy month!

This post is actually part of a swap on Swap-Bot called ESG: My favourite picture of the month May. I generally sign up for these every month so I thought it would be nice to do them as a blog post from now on.

This first one was from our monthly Goth event called Attrition. I don’t like my smile but just thought that this was an awesome photo because it shows that Goths can also be happy!

The second photo was taken at Geekfest. I had a stall there on both days and on the first day my boyfriend and I were dressed as vikings.

The third photo is from my graduation! We are still waiting for the official photos, but we took this before the ceremony.

2016-05-21 22.32.07-2

The last photo is from Iron Maiden’s The Book Of Souls Tour Johannesburg show. We had been waiting for this day for almost a year! They are my boyfriend’s favourite band and we never thought we would get the chance to see them in South Africa. We hope we get another chance to see them soon.

These were my favourite photos and memories from May! I hope you enjoyed them. I am going to try to post more often!

Why I Changed My Name Today

I changed my name today. Quite literally. I went to the Department of Home Affairs and legally changed my first name. Why, you might ask? Well let me tell you.

My first name was a nausea inducing combination name. A mix of my mother and father’s names. The worst thing a parent could ever do to their child. I realised this very early in life and became the subject of mockery because of this name I had been so unfortunate to be given. I had a mostly horrid childhood, and beginning of adulthood for that matter, because of this name. I can honestly say that I hated my parents for many years because of it.

Why do I hate it so much? Well it was impossible for people to say or spell and I hated it so much that I even had to mispronounce it to make it sound better. Even my friends felt my pain and said that they would have felt exactly as I did if they were cursed with a name such as mine. While I completely understand that my parents gave me this name because they love me and they are a part of me, they failed to think of the consequences. They never thought of the many ways that my name could be mispronounced or even modified to become something horrible that will make their beloved daughter cry herself to sleep on countless nights. They didn’t think that because of the things people do to her because of her name, that she would hate herself and even want to die through almost her entire high school years, that she always wished she could have been lucky and got a “normal” name so that she wouldn’t have to cringe in embarrassment whenever her name is announced off a list, whether it be at class or at the doctor’s office. That she dreaded the moment her name would have to be said out loud every single time and wished she didn’t exist because of it. This might seem harsh but unfortunately this is, well was, my reality.

Since I finished university last week Friday, I decided it’s now or never because I needed to decide what name I want on my qualification that I will keep forever and I realised, I’d rather have anything but the name that caused me so much pain.

While I will not say what my old name was (if you don’t know then you don’t have to know – most of my closest friends don’t even know my real name), I will, of course, tell you what it is now. Since for almost a decade people have thought that Joss was short for Josslyn, well, now it finally is. And I couldn’t be happier.

A quick update

Hi everyone!

This blog very quickly turned into a blog solely used to share my show playlists, but I will start to post other things more frequently so that I use the blog the way I intended it. I will try to post at least twice a week (excluding the two show playlists), so that’ll be 4 posts a week.

Some posts coming soon include:
* My tattoos and their stories
* Dressing Gothic in a conservative community or family
* Album reviews – Double Eyelid and Jules Marie
* My advice on how to become an alternative model
* My favourite makeup products

Thank you to everyone who has been supporting my blog until now. Don’t forget to follow my blog and social media!
